The Philippine music industry mourns the passing of an icon who shared in shaping generations and inspiring other artists. Danny Javier, one of the three members of OPM’s well-loved pop trio, Apo Hiking Society, died today, October 31. He was 75.
His daughter, Justine Javier Long, confirmed the news on Facebook, saying he died from “complications due to his prolonged illnesses.”
A few days ago, Filipino actor Richard Merk asked for prayers for Javier’s health. Boboy Garrovillo confirmed that his former band member was not physically well. Meanwhile, in 2020, Javier confirmed via Facebook that he has “underlying health concerns with [my] heart, lungs, and kidneys.”
Javier is a celebrated songwriter who sang alongside Jim Paredes and Garrovillo. He is also known for coining the term “Original Pilipino Music (OPM).”
