When it rains it pours. This can truly be said for the campaign of Vice President Leni Robredo when a big labor federation pledged its support for the only woman candidate for President in the May 9 elections.

In a manifesto, the Association of Genuine Labor Organizations (AGLO) said it “firmly supports the presidential bid of the Vice President for her pledge and sincere commitment to uplift the conditions of the majority who are poor.”

It is one of the country’s largest umbrella organizations, which has a solid presence in Metro Manila, Southern Tagalog, Central Luzon, and Cebu.

Ronald Austria, AGLO National Council chairman, said his group decided to shift its support to Robredo after conducting due diligence on the respective platforms of government of all the candidates.

The Vice President’s agenda to “promote equity and social justice, and to respect the dignity of labor, recognizing and protecting the workers’ human and trade union rights” compelled us to believe that she deserves to be our President.”

“AGLO staunchly supports Robredo’s economic and labor policy agenda,” Austria said.
