The government is optimistic it will inoculate more than 70 million Filipinos against COVID-19 before the May 9, 2022, national elections.
Thus said National Task Force Against COVID-19 consultant Francel Taborlupa following the arrival of another shipment of Moderna COVID-19 vaccines at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Wednesday night.
Taborlupa and other government officials welcomed the latest vaccine shipment consisting of 1,230,800 doses procured by the private sector. The latest arrival brings to 210,023,540 the total number of doses of COVID-19 vaccines that arrived in the country since February.
Taborlupa reminded the public to strictly observe minimum public health standards and for the unvaccinated to get the COVID-19 jab as soon as possible due to the growing threat of the Omicron variant.
As of December 29, a total of 210,023,540 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have arrived in the country since February.
Anakalusugan Rep. Mike Defensor meanwhile Health Secretary Francisco Duque lll and national vaccination czar Carlito Galvez to provide enough Covid-19 vaccines to vaccination centers in Quezon City and other parts of the country.
Defensor made the appeal after receiving complaints from many of his Quezon City constituents that the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC), where they have pre-registered last week to get their booster shots, turned them away Wednesday because the hospital has ran out of vaccine supply.
He said based on the report of the national vaccination task force, more than 209 million doses of different Covid-19 jabs have arrived in the country. He said of that number, 107.3 million doses have been administered, while 48.6 million Filipinos have been fully vaccinated or have received their first and second shots.
