Majority Leader and Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez on Thursday said the impressive and new record high trust and approval ratings of Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano would show that Congress was successful in pushing the legislative agenda of President Rodrigo Duterte to make the life of every Filipino comfortable.
Romualdez, House committee on rules chairperson, maintained the commitment of the House leadership to pass other pending legislative measures that would bolster the country’s economic takeoff.
“I share the belief of majority of our people that the House of Representatives did a marvelous job in its First Regular Session. For the first time ever, a Speaker of the House received an 80-percent trust rating in December and 76 percent approval rating in the latest survey of Pulse Asia,” he said.
Cayetano got an 80-percent approval rating this December from 64 percent last September and 76-percent trust rating compared to his 62 percent in the third quarter Pulse Asia survey.
“Our focus right now is to work hard in legislation and pass all the measures needed to improve the living condition of our people. That is the marching order from the President,” Romualdez said.
For his part, Cavite Rep. Elpidio Barzaga Jr., president of the National Unity Party, said Cayetano’s consistent high trust and approval ratings was a proof that the people truly appreciated his competence and hard work in steering the House of Representatives towards achieving its lofty goals.
“You can’t put a good man down. The Speaker’s consistently exceptional ratings is the fruit of his hard work and his determination to do his job well against all odds. It shows his brand of leadership,” he said.
Deputy Speaker and Camarines Sur Rep. Luis Ray Villafuerte said Cayetano’s rating was the best proof yet that the former senator had started to deliver on his pledge to transform the House of Representatives into a “relevant, responsive and reliable House of the People.”
“This House is now the House of the People—and our people apparently recognize and appreciate that, as reflected in the Speaker’s high public approval and trust ratings in the latest tracking poll,” he said.
