A desperate move

"Who is this reelectionist senator doing questionable things?"

Just a couple of days before the elections, Pulse Asia released the results of its survey conducted May 4 to 6, which, except for some minor changes, was just a reiteration of the results of its April 10 to 14 survey.

I just find this odd because as far as I can recall, Pulse Asia has not released or maybe conducted surveys just days leading to the elections, except now.

But going further a few days back, a result of an SWS survey conducted last April which supposedly was not for publication, was also “leaked” to social media.

So, why the last-minute release of of survey results of the two leading polling firms?

Last May 7 or 8, if I’m not mistaken, the influential Iglesia ni Cristo bared the list of senatorial bets its flock will be supporting this elections. And almost simultaneously with that, the SWS survey result was leaked to the social media.

And then, last Saturday, the Pulse Asia survey came out. Scrutinizing both results reveal that there is one prominent member of the Senate now seeking reelection who made it well within the winning circle in both survey firms’ results. Ironically, this reelectionist senator did not earn the nod of the INC.

Hence, the late release of the survey results might have been intended to offset or neutralize the impact of the INC endorsement, as we are all aware of the fact that the INC endorsement on numerous occasions serve as the barometer for any election.

The obvious target here is former Presidential Adviser Francis Tolentino, who, in March survey results was placing 9th to 10th place. In the same period, this reelectionist senator was struggling to stay afloat in 15th place.

However, when the results April survey was released, Tolentino suddenly dropped to 14th to 17th place even as there was no major development that could shake the standing that time.

And surprisingly, Mr. Reelectionist suddenly surged to 8th place, a jumped of seven place.

In the May 4 to 6 survey, the reelectionist senator placed safely at 10th place while the former chairman of the Metro Manila Development Authority is still out of the Magic 12 at 15th place.

Unfortunately for Mr. Reelectionist, assuming this is really is a last-ditch operation of his camp, no one is buying. And according to sources, even his partymates have already junked him.

The same source bared that this senator earned his partymates’ ire when he failed to issue them their Certificates of Nominations forcing them to file as independent candidates for this elections, which deprived them of the opportunity to file for substitution candidates.

According to the same source, a staff of the said senator was selling his partymates Certificates of Nominations for a hefty sum, which the candidates refused to pay for.

As such, his partymates vowed not to support this reelectionist senator, whom some political observers have described as a yellowtard masquerading as a staunch administration ally.

I am no fan of Senator Ping Lacson but if I may borrow his words, I hope this reelectionnist senator won’t win in today’s election. As far as I am concerned, he doesn’t deserve a seat in the Senate. In fact, he can’t even win in his own hometown.

And to all the candidates for today’s political derby, I wish you luck.
