Motorcycle accidents remain one of the three leading causes of death and injury on the roads in Metro Manila last year, a government road accident recording and analysis report showed.

Based on the 2018 Metro Manila Accident Recording and Analysis System report, motorcycles have the “highest fatality accident rate” with 224 the total number of deaths, followed by trucks (100) and private cars (95).

Motorcycles also topped the list of vehicles with the most number of injuries, posting 13,594 shares followed by cars (8,121), vans (1,797) and public utility jeep (1,717).

The MMRAS, a program created by the Metro Manila Development Authority,

aimed to improve road management in the metropolis, also stated that the number of deaths caused by road accidents went down last year.

The program recorded a total of 394 deaths in 2018, down by 45 compared to the 434 the number of deaths listed in 2017.

Government records showed that most road accidents happen because of undisciplined motorists, drunk driving and the use of mobile phones while driving. Most of these incidents involved reckless motorcycle riding men.
