Maranao mothers undertake livelihood skills training

Around 60 Maranao mothers in Bubong and Saguiaran, Lanao del Sur cooked turmeric powder and palapa, a Maranao condiment during a livelihood skills training which is part of the Creating Spaces Project.

The training aims to provide economic opportunities to mothers who got married at an early age. The mothers are expected to generate income from selling processed foods.

The project is also linking the mothers to the Department of Trade and Industry to help them market and compute the cost of their products which are not only based on raw ingredients.  It also includes the maintenance and sustainability of their utensils and equipment.

It is funded by Global Affairs Canada through Oxfam, and is implemented by Philippine Business for Social Progress in partnership with Al-Mujadilah Development Foundation Inc.

Other training courses include weaving, dressmaking and awareness-raising to stakeholders about women’s economic rights in Lanao del Sur and Maguindanao.
