In September 2014, she decided to adopt a rescued puppy.
Since then, Ana Katrina Co says he “has been putting a ‘Smiley’ in our hearts.”
How time flies, Ana says, as the dog named Smiley is now four years old.
The pup was named Smiley by admins of the animal welfare group Save Animals of Love and Light (Save ALL) because he always looks like he is smiling. He is one of those rare dogs with that “smiling face” that makes everyone loves him and smile too.
Smiley is one of three pups of Bea who was rescued from a barangay pound in Montalban, Rizal a few days after she gave birth in 2014.
The barangay said they were asked for assistance by a homeowner who saw Bea inside his house after coming home from a vacation.
The homeowner saw one of the windows broken and pieces of food scraps beside Bea and her puppies.
It appeared Bea "broke" into the house, stayed there to give birth, then would come out to look for food, and then go back to breastfeed her puppies. What a resourceful dog and a very good mother!
Smiley and his brothers Dooby and Happy have also been adopted. Bea is still in the Save ALL foster home and is now a senior dog.
Ana says Smiley is “very friendly with other dogs, specially his housemate, Evo who is a senior shih tzu.”
Ana adds, “He is protective and always barks when there's a stranger at the gate (those who deliver goods).”
Smiley is also very sweet and always asks for attention, Ana says.
She says, “Ang hilig sumiksik when you're sitting down. Gusto niya nakasiksik siya sa tabi mo. He always wants to play. He is full of energy. He can be so makulit and playful.”
But Smiley also follows commands and stops when told to do so.
He is also a very healthy dog. “Hindi siya sakitin,” Ana says.
To show Smiley ’s story—his growth, his blessed life—here are photos of this bubbly, handsome, loving doggy.
