Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya—At least 100 farmers in this town recently received free fertilizer from the Department of Science and Technology Regional Office.
Mat Abella, DoST focal person on Carrageenan Plant Food Supplement, said the free fertilizer is given to the farmers to boost their rice and vegetable yield.
“You should avail of this fertilizer while it is still free. Next year, this will be sold commercially already,” he said.
Abella said the CPFS, an invention of a Filipino scientist has been recently bought by a private company in the country.
He said the 2,400 liters of CPS can cover 266 hectares of rice and vegetable plantation.
Jun Domingo, a farmer and CPFS user from barangay Bonfal West here, said he was able to produce 130 cavans of rice in just 7,000 square meters of land in one of his harvests.
“I can say that this is effective in increasing our rice yield with just following the proper procedure and usage,” he said.
Pablo Dacumos, 82, also a farmer and CPFS user bared the same experience like Domingo.
“It is good that the government is giving us a supply of this for free. We are benefiting much from it,” he said.
He said he was able to produce 128 rice yield in a harvest within a hectare of the rice plantation.
Before the CPFS distribution, the farmers underwent technical briefing and orientation in Barangay La Torre North in this town.
Abella further said that 300 farmers more are expected to receive CPFS in Dupax del Norte town this month as part of their assistance to farmers.
“In Cagayan Valley, we have more than 2,500 farmers as a recipient of CPFS. This will be distributed before the end of this year,” he added.
