Shopee, alongside leading beauty brands Maybelline and Palmolive, brought five Women’s Rights advocates together to share their personal stories on how they overcame society’s beauty standards.
The event was divided into three talk show-like sessions, where the guests shared their personal experiences and struggles in overcoming society’s definition of “beauty.”
Among the speakers were Miss World 2013 Megan Young, singer-turned-actress KC Concepcion, and top beauty influencers Martha Jante, Real Asian Beauty (Kristine Roces) and Helen on Fleek (Helen Payawal).
Director of the leading e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia and Taiwan, Jane Lim, welcomed the guests by emphasizing the true essence of the event as a celebration of women and their success.
“We are proud to partner Maybelline and Palmolive for this event — both leading beauty brands who share the same belief that women should be celebrated as they are,” Lim said.
The main speaker, Miss World 2013 Megan Young, stated that insecurities should be embraced to overcome society’s expected beauty standards.
“Evolution of beauty standards are never ending… We allow beauty standards to define us and that’s when our insecurities start,” she said.
In her interactive talk, she added, “empowerment is what makes you happy, what makes you unique, what something that you like and not just because somebody said. ‘This is who you should be.’”
Palmolive Ambassador KC Concepcion, on the other hand, mentioned that one must consider helping people develop to their full potential to be truly empowered.
“Be empowered by not just speaking of yourself all the time, but also involving people and to really think of what you can do for others more than what others can do for you all the time,” she expressed.
Lastly, Maybelline’s #MakeItHappen campaign screams women empowerment especially with the insights of Martha Jante, Kristine Roces and Helen Payawal on how products from the cosmetics brand helped to overcome their insecurities and boosted their self-confidence.
Attendees were also free to enjoy complimentary rides to the event from Grab, the official ride sponsor, as well as free blow-dry and hair styling sessions by Asia’s Next Top Model Judge Lourd Ramos’ salon, Creations.
Along with the event, Shopee is also celebrating Beauty Week from June 21 to 27 by having up to 95% off on the health and beauty category on top of a storewide sale, exclusive deals and bundles, P199 below collections and many more.
