QC orients city on junk food law

To raise public awareness, the Quezon City government recently conducted a three-day orientation on the Anti-Junk Food and Sugary Drinks Ordinance at the barangay level.

Dr. Maria Lourdes Eleria of the city health department said the move was part of a massive information dissemination drive to ensure the strict implementation of City Ordinance of 2579 passed in August 2017 in a bid to promote the health and welfare of the people, especially the children.

Barangay officials were invited in the orientation since they would take charge of the implementation of the ordinance in respective communities.

“We are not only talking to school officials, but also to barangay officials to ensure the measure would be strictly implemented at the grassroots level,” Eleria said.

She accounted for the cooperation between the city government and barangays in a huge role in the successful implementation of the Anti-Junk Food and Sugary Drinks Ordinance.

Next month, the city government is set to conduct another orientation for barangay officials on health and school representatives.
