Groups want Marawi redeemed

VARIOUS civil society organizations on Wednesday appealed to President Rodrigo Duterte to fast-track the rehabilitation of Marawi City.

Dalomabi Lao Bula, spokesperson of Kalimudan Foundation Inc., Kapamagogopa Inc., Tapukan Farmers Group, Lombay Ka and Maradeca, said for more than 11 months, Marawi City was still groping in the dark as to government plan on the rehabilitation of Marawi’s ground zero now called most affected area.

She said they were becoming impatient as to their plight.

Several dates have been given as a timeline for returning home, but the dates kept on being moved, she added.

The city and povincial local government units hosted a multisectoral forum last March 20 and March 21.

The National Economic and Development Authority presented a comprehensive recovery and rehabilitation plan for the cleared areas.

The stakeholders were asked to give reactions and recommendations through a workshop.

According to Bula, several Marawi-based civil society organizations have been working hand in hand with the government to convey to the President the pleas of the more than 12,000 internally displaced persons who suffered and are still suffering “until this very moment.”

“Mr. President, with your sympathy and kind heart we beg to conduct a transparent and acceptable post conflict damage assessment of private properties caused by the deliberate and excessive bombing,” the groups said.
