Department of Interior and Natural Resources (DILG) Officer-in-Charge Eduardo Año says, government agencies are just waiting for President Duterte's declaration of state of calamity and they will begin the clean up of the island.

Año explains, the island needs to be rescued from environmental pollution.

Duterte had described Boracay as "a pit of human waste."

The Department of Tourism (DOT) has yet to say when the planned shutdown will take place.

Earlier pronouncements indicate the island will be closed to tourists from June 1 to July 31.

The DOT intends to make a public announcement soon on when the closure of Boracay will be implemented.
