The San Miguel Beermen took control in the second period and had little trouble disposing of the Phoenix Fuel Masters, 104-96, Sunday at the Smart Araneta.
Junemar Fajardo knocked 23 points and 16 rebounds for the Beermen, who got off to a great start in their first game in PBA Season 43.
Fajardo imposed his will in the last 1:26 of the second period, his baskets finding their range during a decisive 12-4 run.
When it was over, the Beermen were ahead, 42-37.
A triple from Alex Cabagnot followed by an inside play allowed them to take the half, 47-37.
Cabagnot went on to finish with 22 points.
Marcio Lassiter provided 20 points, including a layup in the last 5:30 that gave the Beermen a 36-31 edge.
