SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga”•The newly improved eight-lane San Fernando Exit Interchange of the North Luzon Expressway here was opened to traffic Wednesday.
The P287 million project of NLEX Corp. aims to decongest traffic along the Jose Abad Santos Avenue here, which is seriously congested during weekends and the holiday season.
Rodrigo Franco, president and CEO of Metro Pacific Tollway Corp. and NLEX Corp., said the two big intersections complete with traffic lights will surely improve the traffic along Abad Santos.
Franco said the improvement of the avenue was needed because the San Fernando exit and interchange serves as the path to western Nueva Ecija, Subic, Olongapo City, Pampanga and Bataan. Romeo Dizon
“With the construction of the interchange under the build-operate-transfer program, Pampanga will further boost its economic development,” he said.
The main cause of traffic on the avenue are the two-lane roads, two roundabouts and the operation of big malls, which cause congestion during the holidays.
Among those who attended the opening of the San Fernando Exit Interchange were 2nd District Rep. and former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and Gov. Lilia Pineda.
