Global Peace Foundation Philippines, a non-government organization that promotes community development programs, recently collaborated with BDO Foundation, One Network Bank and the provincial government of Nueva Ecija to conduct a financial literacy seminar for the officers and members of the All-Lights Village Cooperative and Association.
The training was facilitated by financial literacy expert Salvador Garcia Jr., North Luzon region sales head of ONB, the rural bank subsidiary of BDO Unibank.
Attended by more than 60 participants, the corporate citizenship initiative is in keeping with the educational component of BDO Foundation’s financial inclusion advocacy.
The seminar was designed to empower the cooperative by educating its members on the importance of saving. Participants learned lessons on personal finance and understood the consequences of financial decisions. They also learned the procedures for opening a savings account.
According to the officers of the All-Lights Village Cooperative and Association, the training inspired them to become more financially responsible and make sound financial decisions for the future of their families. They gained a better appreciation of the importance of saving and insights on money management. Attendees were also encouraged to share the lessons they learned with their children.
All-Lights Village is a long-term program that provides solar-powered light to rural villages with limited access to electricity. It aims to improve the quality of life of residents through education, clean water solutions and income generation.
