The Quezon City government has awarded P100,000 each to eight resident centenarians.

Among the centenarians in this batch are: Eulogia Valderama Nava, Ceferino Quimson Sarmenta, Luz Lucia Reyes Fernandez, Josefa Lunar Garcia, Nieves Callauen Gines, Esperanza Ruiz Hizon, Clarita Banas de Dios, and Caridad Iledan Ileto they each receive a plaque of appreciation and P100,000 cash.

The awarding of the cash incentive is in accordance with the recently approved ordinance that grants a P100,000 cash to Quezon City’s centenarians.

Mayor Herbert Bautista sees this as a fitting expression of gratitude.

“Imbes na nagbibigay tayo ng cake o kung ano-ano pa at least itong cash incentive, sa oras ng kanilang pangangailangan, mas importante at mahalagang reward ang binibigay natin,” Mayor Bautista said during his recent State of the City Address.

Aside from the grant given by the Quezon City government, centenarians will also receive cash incentives from the national government.

Section 2 of Republic Act 10868 or the “Centenarians Act of 2016,” provides that all Filipinos who reach the age of one hundred (100) years old, whether residing in the Philippines or abroad, shall be honored with a Letter of Felicitation from the President of the Philippines congratulating the celebrant for his or her longevity; and a centenarian gift in the amount of one hundred thousand pesos (P100,000) coming from the national government.

According to QC OSCA, there are 126 centenarians residing in Quezon City.
