Twenty-four flights from Cebu, Clark and Manila to Hong Kong were canceled due to bad weather condition brought by Tropical Storm “Isang,” airport officials said on Wednesday.
Based on the advisory released by the Manila International Airport Authority-Media Affairs Division, 12 of those canceled were Philippine Airlines (PAL) MNL-HKG-MNL flights—PR 300/301, PR 306/307, PR 310/311, PR 318/319, PR 352/353 and PR 382/383.
The Cebu Pacific Air canceled eight flights—5J108 Manila-Hong Kong, 5J109 Hong Kong-Manila, 5J110 Manila-Hong Kong, 5J111 Hong Kong-Manila, 5J150 Clark- Hong Kong, 5J149 Hong Kong-Clark, 5J240 Cebu-Hong Kong and 5J241 Hong Kong-Cebu.
The Cathay Pacific Airlines also canceled four flights—CX 900 Manila-Hong Kong , CX 904 Manila-Hong Kong and CX 912/913 Manila-Hong Kong-Manila.
Management of PAL and Cebu Pacific Air advised the affected passengers to contact their offices for further information and inquiries or to rebook flights for free within 30 days, opt for a full refund, or place the cost of the ticket in a travel fund for future use.
They offered apologies for the inconvenience the weather-related flight cancellations caused.
In a bulletin issued late Tuesday afternoon, the weather bureau stated that Isang is already 395 kilometers west of Basco, Batanes, or outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility. It is moving west northwest at 25 kilometers per hour.
Meanwhile, the Cebu Pacific Flight 5J015 Dubai- Manila scheduled to depart at 3:10 a.m. (Manila time) 11:10 p.m. (Dubai time) was also cancelled last Tuesday due to detected technical issue prior to takeoff.
Airline officials said affected guests will be accommodated on the next available flight scheduled to depart at 3:10 a.m. (Aug. 24, Manila time) 11:10 p.m (Aug. 23, Dubai time).
“We will be providing affected passengers with meals, a one-way travel voucher, other necessities, and hotel accommodation, subject to visa policies of the United Arab Emirates.
Passengers who were not able to avail of hotel accommodation due to visa policies of UAE were provided access to the airport lounge,” they stated.
“We apologize for any inconvenience this situation has caused. The safety of our passengers remains our top priority.”
