The Department of Labor and Employment has intensified its program to improve the working conditions of Filipinos by conducting livelihood and job seminars for students and residents of Manila to help them get decent and sustainable jobs.
More than 600 students from the six districts in the city of Manila, as well as citizens who aspire to put up their businesses, were trained under the DoLE’s Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan Caravan program.
DoLE National Capital Region Labor and Employment specialist Ryan Robert delos Reyes provided the student-participants with strategies, knowledge, and techniques in finding jobs that match their skills and capabilities.
He said that many employers look for applicants who have good communication skills and has the ability to work with various conditions that require multi-tasking abilities.
He taught the participants on how to draft an attractive resume and ace the job interviews.
He also emphasized the need to become familiar with general labor standards and social benefits of workers, as well as harness the services offered by the PhilJobNet, the online job-matching portal of DoLE.
The Labor official said the DoLE, DTI, and the City Government of Manila signed a Declaration of Commitment to achieve the goals of “Ambisyon 2014: Matatag, Maginhawa, at Panatag na Buhay,” and the “2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development” of the Philippine government.
The agreement calls for the agencies to provide decent jobs, entrepreneurship opportunities, employment seminars, and other training to the public.
