Mobile app Twitter is expanding its exposure in the Philippines to reach more Filipino users in remote islands and provinces with the launch of Twitter Lite, a more accessible, data-friendly mobile news and social media engagement tool.
Twitter head of business development for Southeast Asia and Australia Dwi Adriansah said Twitter Lite aimed to “attract more Twitter users from all parts of the Philippines.”
“We’re focused on expanding our reach to more people. We noticed that in the emerging markets, we see people still connecting to 3G when data is slow. But having Twitter Lite, they don’t have to worry about slow connection because Twitter Lite is built on the PWA, a progressive wed app,” he said.
The Philippines became the third country in Asia with access to Twitter Lite, after India in April and Indonesia in May.
Twitter also reinforced its strategic partnership with Smart Communications and Globe Telecom to reach and recruit more users. “The Philippines is one of the important and largest audience for us. Even in the Asia Pacific region, the Philippines is one of our growth drivers. It is one of the most exciting markets in the region where almost everyday something is trending on Twitter”•whether it is a celebrity or a drama program,” Adriansah said.
