BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya—The provincial government’s yearly “Search For Makakalikasang Barangay” has put several barangays in spotlight because of their sustainable eco-friendly practices.

For instance, Barangay Pelaway in Alfonso Castaneda town has more Materials Recovery Facilities (13) than it has “puroks” or sub-sitios (eight) despite being located more than 100 kilometers from the provincial capital.

Barangay Duruarog in Diadi town also prides itself with owning a “Mobile Junk Shop,” which regularly visits villagers’ homes to collect their recyclable waste materials.

These are some of the 14 barangays cited for recognition and reaped awards and cash incentives during the 2015 edition of the search. The activity is part of the province’s Environmental Awareness Month every November through Sangguniang Panlalawigan  Ordinance No. 2013-084.
