Vizcaya to honor model grandparents

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya—The provincial government is set to recognize model grandparents in the province for their contribution in strengthening family ties and developing families as responsible citizens.

Rachel Magday Itchon, one of the evaluators of the search for “Pagwadan a Lolo ken Lola” (Model Grandparents) said the awards have already drawn 20 candidates from various towns here.

“The oldest is a 94-year-old grandmother from Bagabag town. Only the towns of Alfonso Castaneda and Bambang have no entries out of our 15 municipalities,” she said.

The candidates will vie to earn points from their quality of family life, community involvement, participation and accomplishments, initiated projects, and inputs from their personal interview.

The awarding of winners will be on May 23 at the provincial government’s Convention Center in this town.

The search is part of the weeklong celebration of the province’s founding anniversary, dubbed 9th Grand Ammungan (Gathering) Festival.

Magday said the provincial government’s move to recognize model grandparents is part of its advocacy and priority program in support of the elderlies of the province.

A major point of this program was the crafting of the Centenarian Ordinance, which gives awards and incentives to the recipients.
