Nora Aunor and Jaclyn Jose at AIFFA 2017 in Malaysia

Superstar and multi-awarded actress Nora Aunor is in Kuching, Malaysia as the special presenter to this year’s recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award of AIFFA 2017 (ASEAN International Film Festival and Awards.

The Gala Night (awards ceremonies) will be held tomorrow. Aunor left on Thursday with the other Philippine delegates and accompanied by John Rendez. They are staying at Pullman Hotel in Malaysia.

Aunor was the recipient of AIFFA Lifetime Achievement Award in 2015, while Jackie Chan was given the Asian Inspiration Award that year.

According to sources, Aunor can’t miss this opportunity and honored for the same recognition given to her two years ago for her achievements and iconic status in Philippine entertainment.   

The actress is celebrating her 50th anniversary in the movie industry, too.

This year’s recipient is not known yet.  

Before she left, the Superstar was deciding between two designer gowns to wear.

Likewise, Cannes 2016 Best Actress Jaclyn Jose is attending the said Malaysian film event as one of the special speakers today.  

Jose is looking forward to this speaking engagement to give inspiration to her fellow ASEAN actors.

Last year, Jose made history by becoming the first Southeast Asian actress to bag the coveted Best Actress award at the Cannes International Film Festival for her performance in Brillante Mendoza’s Ma’Rosa.

Meanwhile, nine Filipino independent films are representing the country at this third edition of AIFFA. 

The grand film event of Malaysia, with Livan Tajang as Festival Director, is being held every other year since 2013. Previous to this one, the festival was held in 20115.

AIFFA is a film competition among ASEAN countries –Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Myanmar, etc.

Ang Babaeng Humayo (The Woman Who Left) by Lav Diaz was this year’s opening film. 

Filipino celebrities Marc Nelson and Rovilson Fernandez will host the awards night. Cherie Gil, who won Best Actress in AIFFA 2015 (for Sonata), and Marlo Mortel are award presentors, while Jason Dy will perform.
