NGCP shares energy tips for the summer

BALANGA CITY, Bataan—The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines has revealed its “Hirit sa Tag-init” energy-saving tips for household consumers with the onset of summer.

“Let us use LED bulbs, which are energy efficient, instead of incandescent bulbs,” said Fely Francisco, NGCP Regional Corporate Communications and Public Relations officer, during her radio guesting at Sikat FM 91.1 here.

The electricity used over the lifetime of a single incandescent bulb costs 5 to 10 times the original purchase price of the bulb itself, according to the Department of Energy department.

“Make sure to schedule ironing of clothes just once a week and in the morning when it is cooler,” Francisco advised. “More electricity is being consumed if ironing is done daily, since the amount of heat generated by the iron is not maximized, unlike when ironing in big batches of clothes.

“And do the ironing during off-peak electricity hours, that is before 9 a.m. or after 5 p.m.,” she added.

“Turn off lights in the parts of the house when no one is present. And of course we can save energy by reducing the amount of use of any appliances,” Francisco pointed out.

The NGCP officer also reminded the public of the dos and don’ts to be safe from transmissions lines.
