CHINA invited Filipino athletes to train in high performance centers in Beijing and Shanghai.

This will be possible for the first time after Chinese authorities and officials of the Philippine Sports Commission met last week in Beijing.

After a  Memorandum of Understanding on Sports Cooperation was signed, Filipino athletes will have access to training facilities in China.

“Aside from the Beijing Sports University, we also have the Shanghai Sports University extending their help,” National Training Director Marc Velasco said.

Velasco accompanied PSC chairman William Ramirez  in his four-day visit to Beijing.

While there, Ramirez signed an MOU with Gou Zhongwen, director of the State Sports Administration last Feb. 28, and in the presence of Philipine Embassy Consul General Elizabeth Te.

“We are just limited to this part. But eventually, they’re willing to help us (in other areas) depending on our wish list,” said National Training Director Marc Velasco.

The agreement encourages both countries to exchange views on relevant issues on sports exchanges and cooperation.

Discussions are also going on order for national athletes to have access of facilities in Shanghai.

Shanghai Sports University is noted for its expertise in swimming, badminton, gymnastics and diving.

Velasco said China is willing to work with the Philippine side, in the framework of the memorandum to further strengthen the sports exchanges, and actively promote bilateral sports cooperation to achieve greater development.
