An industry group asked more companies to participate in the Dual Training System program to address the jobs-skills mismatch in the country.
“The strong partnership between the academic institution and the firm will guarantee that student-trainees will have the skills, knowledge and attitude needed for future employment,” according to a policy note released by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry Human Resources Development Foundation Inc.
The dual training system is a training modality combining theoretical and practical training. The technical vocational institutions and the firm (industry partner) work together in designing the training plan and finding ways to determine the best and the most efficient way of training the trainee-student.
The policy note cited simulation exercise showing the combined short and long-term benefits are bigger than the overall costs by about P3,500 per trainee for large firms on the assumption the trainees stay with the firm for at least three months. This provides an incentive to engage in the dual training program.
