Scorpions subdue Falcons

THE Centro Escolar University-B Scorpions drew big baskets from Allan Malubay, Mohd Sayed Ascano and Gabby Alvendia to put away the Adamson Soaring Falcons, 84-78, Sunday in the 14th Fr. Martin Division 2 Cup basketball tournament at the St. Placid gym of San Beda College in Mendiola, Manila.

Malubay fired 26 points and the duo of Sayed and Alvendia added 12 for the Scorpions in their bid to be in contention for a seat in the quarterfinal round.

Malubay drained three triples in the fourth period, with two hitting their mark in the final 24 seconds as the Scorpions went on to earn their third win in six games in Group A.

They moved into a tie for fourth and fifth places with Arellano University.

Already in the quarterfinals in Group A are the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons, the San Beda-B Red Lions and the Adamson Soaring Falcons, who got 22 points from Tyrus Hill and 16 from Jerie Pingoy.

From Group B, the San Beda-A Red Lions made it to the quarterfinals with Letran-A, CEU-A and Far Eastern University.

In the junior action, the National University Bullpups took a 69-79 loss to the Hope Christian School Stallions, and formally barged into the semifinal round with their 6-1 win-loss record.

They are joined in Group B by the San Beda-Rizal Red Cubs who have a 5-3 slate.

The Rich Golden Shower Montessori Center Spartans, who have a 6-1 card, took the first semis seat in Group A, while the Letran Squires (4-1) and Chiang Kai Shek College Blue Dragons (4-0) are in contention for the remaining slot.

In other games, King Caralipio unloaded 36 points for the Letran Knights as they won over CEU-A, 80-77.
