A new farm-to-market road was inaugurated Friday in the municipality of Agdangan, Quezon by Japanese Embassy First Secretary Kenji Terada, Japan International Cooperation Agency Sectional Rep. Yoshiyuki Ueno, Agrarian Reform Undersecretary. Herman Ongkiko, Quezon province administrator Ronemel Edaño and Agdangan Mayor Rhadam Aguilar, the Japanese Embassy reported.
In a statement, the embassy said some 200 farmers from four barangays witnessed the turnover of the road that was built under the Agrarian Reform Infrastructure Program and funded through the Japan Official Development Assistance program. The total loan support for this project amounts to 11.802 billion yen or P5.131 billion, the statement said.
The road was built to improve farm efficiency, mobility of farm products and commercial goods, and enhance the quality of life of farmers. The vicinity of the road is famous for coconut plantations and farmers used horses to deliver coconuts and coconut products before this program.
Through this program, farmers can efficiently deliver coconuts in motor vehicles and process oil, sugar, soap and other products using copra, a coconut by-product.
