CIMB Bank Philippines has launched Own My Goals (OMG), a new savings feature designed to help customers set and track financial targets easily.

Named Best Digital Bank in the country by The Asian Banker, CIMB introduced OMG as an alternative to the extreme cost-cutting measures some Filipinos take.

A 28-year-old woman said her friend’s family brought instant iced tea packs to restaurants to avoid paying for drinks. A 30-year-old man recalled an ex-partner who used only one square of toilet paper at a time. Others made risky food choices, like a 25-year-old woman’s classmate who regularly ate at a stall selling cheap siomai rice despite uncertainty over the meat’s origin.

Some took creative approaches to savings. A 27-year-old said an acquaintance used only two inches of dental floss per session. A 23-year-old man’s aunt relied on free perfume samples at mall counters instead of buying a bottle. A 22-year-old woman said her father printed school readings in the smallest font to conserve ink and paper.

While some may find these tactics extreme, saving does not have to be difficult, CIMB Bank Philippines said. The OMG feature allows customers to set multiple savings goals, track progress, and use an auto-save function to maintain financial discipline.

Users can personalize their goals with names and design themes, and receive regular reminders and milestone prompts. CIMB said the tool, coupled with the bank’s competitive interest rates, can help Filipinos build savings more efficiently.
