Blazers dribble into fashion: Benilde teams up for Sinulid 2025 fundraiser

The Benilde Blazers, the senior varsity teams of De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB), recently hosted a meet-and-greet event on campus, combining school spirit with a charitable cause.

The event energized the community as the men’s basketball team competed in the Final Four of the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s (NCAA) 100th season. It also served as a fundraiser for Sinulid 2025, the annual runway show of the college’s Fashion Design and Merchandising (FDM) program.

“Combining the worlds of fashion and sports celebrates the diverse talents and passions within the school and inspires collaboration and mutual appreciation,” said Benilde FDM Chairperson Ionica Abrahan Lim.

The athletes engaged with fans through interactive games, including Pass the Ball, where the final person to touch the hoop answered random questions about the team. A Q&A session allowed fans to learn more about the athletes’ camaraderie, hidden talents, pregame rituals, and post-victory celebrations.

Players also faced off with participants in a round of Jack ‘N Poy, a Filipino version of rock-paper-scissors, before rehearsing cheers, posing for selfies, and signing autographs. The Blazers closed the afternoon by dancing to Timmy Thomas’ “Dying Inside to Hold You.”

“Meet-and-greet activities with interactive segments allow players and students to connect on a more personal level,” said Lim. “The Blazers felt the unwavering encouragement of the Benildean community, boosting their morale and enthusiasm. They also gained new friends.”

Fashion Design student Matthew Oli encourage fellow students to watch and support their upcoming games

Fashion Design major Matthew Oli was joined by teammates Allen Liwag, Justine Sanchez, Jhomel Ancheta, Gab Cometa, Joshua Cajucom, Anton Eusebio, Jesse Arciaga, Zenric Jarque, Ian Torres, Roger Ondoa, Irele Galas, and Edson Serrano in supporting the fundraiser.

Set for January, Sinulid 2025 will showcase the works of 34 graduating students under the theme “Threaded Experience.” The culminating activity will highlight each designer’s individuality and creativity, drawing inspiration from their personal and academic journeys.

“Expect a bolder concept and inspiring interpretations of this year’s theme,” said Lim. “The show and exhibit will feature something different, as we’ve collaborated with the Center of Campus Art (CCA) to bring a unique blend of artistry and design to the event.”
