Physical activity is vital for children’s development and well-being. It helps maintain a healthy weight, strengthens muscles and bones, and improves cardiovascular fitness. Regular exercise also boosts the immune system, lowering the risk of diseases.
Beyond physical health, staying active reduces stress and anxiety, improves mood, and enhances focus and academic performance.
The Knowledge Channel Foundation Inc. and Breeze launched their EcoPlay initiative at Marikina Elementary School on Oct. 7. The initiative integrates traditional Filipino games into the P.E. curriculum for grades 4 to 6. The project aims to promote sportsmanship, physical fitness, and resilience among young learners.
EcoPlay will involve 68 schools across Marikina City, Quezon City, and Taguig City and Pateros (TAPAT). Video lessons, session guides, and EcoPlay game kits will be used in classrooms, and grade 3 students will participate in Eco Gardens, fostering environmental responsibility. The initiative follows the partners’ earlier EcoProject, which focused on environmental conservation.
“Today, we are proud to launch EcoPlay in our fourth year of partnership with Breeze,” said Rina Lopez, president and executive director of the Knowledge Channel Foundation. “We believe learning should be holistic, and this initiative encourages physical fitness and life skills like perseverance, teamwork, and respect.”
The program will conclude with a Palarong Pinoy event, where participating schools will compete, with winners receiving Knowledge Channel TV packages and recognition.
