The Motorcycle Development Program Participants Association, Inc. (MDPPA) has announced a robust 7% increase in motorcycle sales for 2024, reaching a five-year high of 1,682,482 units. This consortium of major Japanese manufacturers, including Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Yamaha, and newest member TVS Philippines, saw significant growth compared to the 1,577,597 units sold in 2023.
The 2024 sales figures represent a strong recovery for the industry, exceeding the 1,564,827 units sold in 2022 and the 1,435,677 units sold in 2021. While still below the pre-pandemic peak of 1.7 million units sold in 2019, the 2024 results signal a positive trend.
“Despite ongoing challenges in the industry, MDPPA is pleased to share that the 7% growth achieved in 2024 is the highest among our ASEAN neighbors,” stated Alex Cumpas, President of MDPPA. He highlighted that Indonesia and Malaysia only experienced 2% growth, while other countries in the region saw minimal increases. Cumpas expressed optimism that the industry could surpass the 2019 sales record in 2025.
MDPPA’s positive outlook for 2025 is based on several factors, including the upcoming national election, anticipated favorable economic conditions, and supportive house bills currently under consideration that are aimed at benefiting the motorcycle industry. These factors have led MDPPA to project a 5% growth rate for the coming year.
