The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA), in collaboration with Women in Maritime Philippines (WIMAPHIL), reaffirmed its commitment to women’s empowerment and gender inclusivity during the International Day for Women in Maritime Forum held on May 18 at the Manila Prince Hotel.
Carrying the theme, “From Policy to Practice: Advancing Gender Equality for Maritime Excellence,” the forum gathered women leaders, maritime professionals, government representatives, and industry stakeholders to celebrate the growing contributions of women in shaping the maritime sector.
MARINA Administrator Sonia Malaluan spearheaded the event, underscoring the vital role of women in strengthening the maritime workforce and driving positive industry change. She highlighted MARINA’s continued support for institutional policies that promote equal opportunities, leadership development, and increased female participation in maritime professions.
The forum featured a Women Leaders Panel, where discussions centered on gender mainstreaming, inclusive workplace practices, and targeted advocacy initiatives. An oathtaking ceremony was also held, cementing the shared commitment of stakeholders toward a more inclusive and progressive industry.
During the panel, women leaders from the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), shipping companies, academia, and the manning sector shared their insights. Speakers emphasized how women continue to make meaningful contributions to maritime operations, education, corporate management, security, and policy-making despite global challenges.
The forum was also attended by representatives from various maritime schools, training centers, and manning agencies dedicated to fostering an equitable and sustainable maritime industry.
