Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. (MPTC) said it will implement barrier-less toll systems across all its expressways in Luzon, aligning with the government’s goal.
“MPTC is already in the implementation mode of our Barrier-Free program,” Roberto Bontia, MPTC chief transformation officer said.
“Since 2023, MPTC has organized several dedicated project teams to ensure that motorists are on RFID already, back office systems are robust and seamless, and the our support personnel are as customer-centric to deliver excellent service to the motoring public,” Bontia said.
He said a three-year timeline would be needed to implement the barrier-free program for all its concessions in Luzon.
Bontia said the implementation will be undertaken in “phases” where North Luzon Expressway, Subic Clark-Tarlac Expressway and NLEX Connector Road will be the first expressways to complete the rollout by end 2025.
“CALAX and CAVITEX are foreseen to go-live by end 2026,” he added.
Once barrier less is implemented, Bontia said the typical congestion being experienced by customers at the toll plazas in expressways would be eliminated.
“These seamless passages will likewise improve the overall safety of both customers and personnel operating the expressways,” he added.
Bontia said studies have likewise confirmed that “barrier-free” set-ups at tolling points in expressways reduce carbon emissions by as much as 30 percent, contributing to environmental sustainability.
MPTC operates NLEX, SCTEX, Manila Cavite Expressway, C5 Link Expressway and Cavite Laguna Expressway.
Data showed that as of September 2023, the average daily traffic along NLEX reached 321,384 vehicle entries, while the average daily traffic along SCTEX reached 77,878 vehicle entries.
The average daily traffic for the Connector Road Section 1 reached 12,000 vehicles per day, Cavitex , 158,000 vehicles, Calax, 34,000 vehicles and Cavitex C5 Link with 14,000 vehicle entries per day.
