The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) announced that Asian Terminals Inc. (ATI) and International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI) have submitted separate petitions for a cargo handling tariff increase.
ICTSI, which operates the Manila International Container Terminal, is requesting a 17 percent increase, while ATI, responsible for Manila South Harbor, is seeking a 16.55 percent increase.
According to PPA Administrative Order (AO) No. 02-2018, the two port operators can request tariff adjustments if the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rises by at least 5 percent within three years.
The PPA claims the CPI has met this threshold based on the period 2017 to 2020, as referenced in PPA Memorandum Circular No. 12-2021.
A public hearing to discuss these proposed adjustments is scheduled for April 19th.
This news comes after PPA’s April 2022 decision to grant an 8% cargo handling tariff increase for both Manila South Harbor and MICT, requested by ICTSI.
Additionally, a 10 percent increase was approved for Batangas Port Phase 1 and 2.
The 8 percent increase for Manila ports represents the final installment of a 10 percent increase originally approved by PPA in 2021.
