Tech company vivo has officially launched the new vivo V40 5G, its latest premium midrange smartphone, in the Philippines. Starting at only Php26,999, the vivo V40 5G offers a stylish smartphone design, good performance, AI features, and ZEISS-powered cameras.

On September 18, celebrities, influencers, media, and vivo partners graced the event in Okada Manila to witness the grand launch of the vivo V40 5G in the country. The event was headlined by vivo brand ambassadors Anne Curtis and Maine Mendoza, as well as NBA seven-time champion Robert Horry. All of them went on stage to entertain the crowd and play games, where attendees were given the chance to win their very own V40.

To kick off the program, Phil Zilong and Daniel Goertz, vivo Product Managers, discussed the newest features of the vivo V40. The former explained the Gemini Ring and 3D Curved Design, as well as the new AI features, while the latter talked about the vivo’s camera innovations in partnership with ZEISS. ZEISS Consumer Products Brand Partnership Manager Franziska Hoffman followed to talk about the product development aspect behind the optics and how they co-engineered the lenses to produce professional-looking portraits using a smartphone.

Like its predecessors, the vivo V40 5G’s design is one of the most elegant in its price range. This time, it comes in three colorways: Stellar Silver, Nebula Purple, and Sunglow Peach. Whether you want something that looks simple yet sophisticated, or a smartphone that exudes youth and fun, vivo has it covered.

The new vivo V40 5G retains the 6.78-inch 1.5K curved screen as the V30, but with 60.7% higher local peak brightness at 4,500 nits for a more comfortable viewing experience in different environments. In addition, there’s 120Hz refresh rate, P3 color gamut, and HDR 10+ support. SGS low blue light, low flicker, and low motion blur certifications are also here to guarantee that it’s safer than most smartphone displays for the eyes.

Under the hood, the vivo V40 5G is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset paired with an Adreno 720 GPU. While this processor may not be the most powerful in its price segment, it promises efficient performance and energy efficiency for everyday tasks. The device also offers 12GB of RAM (+12GB extended RAM) and a choice between 256GB and 512GB of storage. To top it all off, vivo promised that the V40 can deliver a “50-month smooth experience” with its hardware and software optimization.

One of the standout features of the vivo V40 is its camera system, co-engineered with ZEISS optics. The rear dual-camera setup uses a 50MP ISOCELL GNJ main sensor with f/1.88 aperture and Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), as well as a 50MP 119-degree ultra-wide-angle lens. In front, there’s a 50MP 92-degree wide angle camera with AI Facial Contouring Technology for group selfies.

The ZEISS Multifocal Portrait feature enables the phone to switch from 24mm, 35mm, and 50mm lens focal length equivalents to take pictures at varying distances with professional-looking bokeh effect. To get the classic ZEISS look, it comes with 7 iconic effects: Planar, Distagon, B-Speed, Biotar, Sonnar, Cineflare Portrait, and Cinematic filters. For shots that need a bit of tweaking, the vivo V40 can remove unwanted distractions in photos with its easy-to-use AI Erase.

To further improve its camera capabilities, vivo V40 5G’s Aura Light technology has been upgraded to be 33% brighter than the previous generation. Now powered by AI, the V40’s Aura Light is equipped with 3D Studio Lighting feature to provide smarter and better fill light in dim environments. And aside from the usual use case as a flash, the Aura Light ring now doubles as a notification indicator, making it easier to see notifications even if the phone is laid face down.

Even with the V40’s focus in style and cameras, vivo didn’t skimp on durability with its IP68 and IP69 certification. The vivo V40 5G is built to endure challenging conditions, whether it’s rain, accidental submersion, high temperature, or pressure. It can even survive 1.5 meters deep in water for up to 30 minutes.

Despite being only 7.58mm thin, vivo managed to cram a massive 5500mAh BlueVolt battery inside it. That’s a 10% increase from the V30’s battery capacity, made possible by the company’s second-generation silicon-carbon anodes that improved energy density by 20%. It charges quickly, too, with support for its proprietary 80W FlashCharge technology.

Aside from the V40, the vivo Watch 3 has also been unveiled in the Philippines. This new smartwatch features a trendy circular design with self-developed BlueOS and ultra-long 16-day battery life. The Asteroid Black version with black rubber strap is available for Php13,999. On the other hand, the more premium Moon White watch with leather strap is priced at Php14,999.

The new vivo V40 5G is available in two variants: 12GB RAM + 256GB storage for Php26,999 and 12GB + 512GB storage for Php29,999. Interested buyers can now get it on all vivo stores nationwide, as well as online through Shopee, Lazada, and vivo’s official website.
