Ternocon 2025 wraps up with fashion show, awards

Ternocon 2025, a celebration of the timeless Filipino Terno, will conclude Sunday with an awarding ceremony and fashion show at the Philippine International Convention Center.

Organized by the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) in collaboration with Bench, the event highlights innovative designs that reinterpret traditional attire, including the Terno with pañuelo, the Balintawak with alampay and tapis, and the kimona—a casual blouse made of embroidered fabric.

“Ternocon showcases the fusion of art, fashion, and Filipino identity. It underscores the CCP’s role in promoting Philippine arts and sustaining our collective identity through clothing,” CCP president Kaye C. Tinga said.

Twelve finalists, including Bryan Peralta, Patrick Lazol, and Nina Gatan, will compete for the Pacita Longos Award, presenting capsule collections inspired by works of 20th-century Filipino artists. Each collection features three pieces: a formal Terno, a Balintawak, and a kimona paired with a patadyong.

Under the mentorship of Inno Sotto, Rhett Eala, Lulu Tan Gan, and Ezra Santos, the finalists drew inspiration from artists such as National Artist Jose Joya, whose brushstrokes influenced Peralta and Lazol. Others, like Lexter Badana, channeled Ramon Orlina’s sculptural works, while Peach Garde found inspiration in Leandro Locsin’s architectural designs.

The competition, now in its fourth edition, reinforces the CCP and Bench’s shared goal of preserving the Terno as a living cultural icon.

“What began in 2018 as a thrust to preserve and promote the Terno has grown into a national movement, making it an integral symbol of our history and identity,” Suyen Corporation chairman and CEO Ben Chan said.

Ternocon’s continued success ensures that Terno remains a dynamic representation of Filipino creativity while honoring traditional craftsmanship.
