Over the last few years, the use of social media sites has significantly changed.

From serving as a platform where people will be able to connect with their families and loved ones, it has evolved into a place where anyone can post content that can give them mainstream success—whether intentionally or by complete accident.

This is the case for many social media personalities whose viral content on platforms such as Facebook, Youtube, Instagram, and TikTok has eventually gotten them a ticket to stardom.

From the social media sphere to mingling with the big leagues

One Youtube personality who managed to find their way toward mainstream success is Jeremy Lomibao Sancebuche, better known as Mimiyuuuh.

Mimiyuuuh’s rise to fame began with her YouTube channel where she posted a video of herself participating in the “Dalagang Pilipina” online challenge in 2019.

After it went viral, her YouTube channel reached more than one million subscribers in six months, which also opened the doors for opportunities such as being a guest in an episode of comedy talk show Gandang Gabi, Vice and morning talk show Magandang Buhay as well as a minor role in the 2019 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) entry, The Mall, The Merrier.

Mimiyuuuh’s fame has also allowed her to collaborate with famous names in the Philippine entertainment industry such as Alex Gonzaga, Rufa Mae Quinto, Erich Gonzales, Heart Evangelista, Sarah Geronimo, Pia Wurtzbach, and Bea Alonzo.

Mimiyuuuh is also one of the ambassadors for Lazada alongside popular stars such as Gabbi Garcia, Andrea Brillantes, Anne Curtis, Kathryn Bernardo, Alden Richards, and many more.

A vlogger’s path to acting

Ivana Alawi finds her way to showbiz when she starred in hit television show, ‘FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano’

Another notable public figure in social media who has reached mainstream fame is Ivana Alawi.

While previously being signed by GMA Artist Center, Ivana made a name for herself by posting several vlogs and challenges on her YouTube channel, which allowed her to grow a fanbase that eventually gave her the spot as one of the most subscribed Filipino celebrities on the platform.

After becoming a part of Star Magic in 2018, Ivana landed a guest role in ABS-CBN’s hit television show, FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano. She eventually became part of the main cast of shows such as Sino ang Maysala?: Mea Culpa, A Family Affair, and FPJ’s Batang Quiapo.

Ivana also made her way to the big screen, starring alongside Vice Ganda in the 2022 MMFF entry, Partners in Crime, which earned her the nomination for the Best Actress Award at the “48th Gabi ng Parangal: Metro Manila Film Festival.”

On her YouTube channel, Ivana has also collaborated with celebrities like Marian Rivera, Bea Alonzo, and Andrea Brilliantes.

Tiktoker turned reality series staple

Sassa Gurl serves as the ‘Drag Runner’ and is one of the judges in the show, ‘Drag Den’

With TikTok being one of the most used apps in the country, some of the stars known on the platform have also eventually grown their reach and landed roles on television screens. Felix Petate, who is most commonly known as Sassa Gurl, is a Tiktok star who did just that.

Known for her comedy sketches as well as lip-sync videos on social media sites, Sassa Gurl’s popularity has allowed her to become a part of Drag Den, a drag pageantry reality competition television series on Amazon Prime Video. She serves as the “Drag Runner” in the series and is one of the judges in the show.

Sassa Gurl has also recently released a song with fellow social media personality, Toni Fowler.

Ivana, Sassa Gurl, and Mimiyuuuh are only some of the many social media personalities who have grown further in the limelight. Their continued rise to fame stems from the fact that social media has allowed them to showcase their authenticity, allowing fans to follow them for the appeal of their character.

With their prominence all over social media platforms, the projects that these personalities are a part of can gain traction through their audience expressing support. It also allows them to further grow their reach and establish their names within the local entertainment industry.
