A Magical Day of Service – Rotary Brings Health and Hope to Metro Manila

On November 9, 2024, during the Rotary Day of Service, we came together for a transformative day focused on healthcare and compassion, benefiting over 500 individuals across Quezon City and Metro Manila.

Held at the Rotary Center, this meaningful event provided essential medical, dental, and optical services to underserved communities, embodying Rotary’s steadfast dedication to service and care.

The event was spearheaded by the Rotary Clubs of Maharlika QC and Kamuning Central, with vital support from Midtown QC, MediaTech, Holy Spirit, Cubao West, Kagitingan Cubao, and Raha Sulayman. Under the guidance of District Governor Milo Lucenario, the day’s events were shaped with vision and purpose, ensuring impactful service delivery to those in need.

President Lito Hao of District 3810 also lent his presence and support, further unifying the spirit of the day. A central highlight was the Hospital on Wheels, an innovative mobile healthcare unit spearheaded by Jim Sanchez.

This state-of-the-art clinic on wheels, equipped with an operating room capable of handling up to three simultaneous procedures, brought much-needed surgical care to those requiring treatment for lumps, hernias, and cleft lips.

Designed to extend healthcare to families in remote areas, the Hospital on Wheels made specialized care accessible for all. Beyond surgery, attendees received free meals, medications, and eyeglasses, ensuring a comprehensive day of care.

The event was smoothly organized, creating a welcoming atmosphere. Dental services, including extractions and fluoride treatments, were available, as well as OB-GYN services such as cervical screenings, cancer awareness, and consultations. Vision screenings, cataract assessments, and eyeglasses offered newfound clarity for many.

Rotary Day of Service Chair PDCOS Aiza Remedios reflected, “This day exemplifies what we can achieve when we care for one another. It strengthens the foundation of our communities.”

District Secretary Lotlot Alvarez shared, “Our collective efforts today have left a lasting impact—a true reminder of the strength in unity and service.” The event’s success was made possible by the combined efforts of numerous dedicated individuals.

Heartfelt gratitude goes to PP Jeannet Cu and PP Angel Castro of the Holy Spirit, who managed administration and operations with the invaluable support of PP Meche Ibo. Dr. August Vergara and Doc Egay Cruz provided ophthalmological checkups for 178 patients, while MP Peachy Ayento rallied MPs and club members to unite in making a tangible difference.

Special recognition goes to Doc Jeff Santos, the RC Kamuning Central RCC Dental Team led by Doc Jess Gaiser, and Dr. Clarissa Ancheta, who celebrated 25 years of Rotary service alongside the RCC Medical Team—Dr. Roger Bueno Jr. (Pediatrics) and Dr. Joanna Felix Bueno (Epidemiology).

Dr. Bogs conducted crucial cervical cancer screenings, reaching over 100 OB-Gyne patients. We also thank Dr. Gwendolyn Pang, Secretary-General of the Red Cross, who supported the mission with her medical team and free medications, and PP Ricky Tiu of RC Raja Solayman D3810, whose donation of medicines was invaluable.

From 8 AM to 5 PM, the Rotary Center became a hub of compassion, unity, and positive impact. The Rotary Day of Service not only provided essential healthcare but also underscored the powerful impact of collaboration and kindness in bringing about meaningful change.

This day will be remembered for its dedication to compassion, access, and community care, guided by the Magical and irresistible leadership of District Governor Milo Lucenario.
