The vibrant community brought out the thrill and festivities at the 10th-anniversary celebration of the Greenfield Weekend Market on May 25, 2024. The grand celebration was jam-packed with astonishing performances, exciting games, raffle prizes, and, of course, its staple artisan food, live art, and live music.

Launched in March 2014, the market has been a consistent presence in the list of top weekend hangout spots in the metro. It has become a beloved destination for friends and families due to its exquisite blend of food, vintage and unique finds, art, music, books, and even tarot reading! But more than just a market, it has become a cornerstone for community-building in Mandaluyong City.

The Birth of a Community Hub

The Greenfield Weekend Market was conceived with a vision: to create a space where people could escape the hustle and bustle of the city and immerse themselves in a vibrant, communal atmosphere. Nestled in a wide, green expanse in Greenfield District, the market showcases Metro Manila’s most exciting experiences and serves as an outdoor destination to gather people with their loved ones.

“We wanted to create more than just a place to shop. We envisioned a space where people could connect, share experiences, and build lasting memories. Over the past decade, it’s been incredible to see how the market has grown and evolved, becoming a significant part of this community and of so many people’s lives,” said Ms. Kathy Tambunting, Senior Marketing Manager of Greenfield Development Corporation.

“I’m here every weekend,” shared Mary Joy, 35, who brought her pet dog and invited her friend Euella, who came from Cebu, to enjoy the festivities of the market. “What I love most about the Greenfield Weekend Market is its live band. It’s fun to come here because of that, coupled with the affordable, wide-ranging food stalls. Plus, I can bring my dog with me!” She shared how she frequently meets up with fellow dog owners and has created a mini dog community with them.

“The vibes are somewhat similar to Cebu’s Sinulog festival! As a first-timer, the event is amazing. We’re happy and we’re chill!” said Euella, 43.

A Feast for the Senses

One of the main draws of the Greenfield Weekend Market is its eclectic array of food stalls. From traditional Filipino street food to gourmet delicacies and too international cuisine, there is something to satisfy every palate.

For many visitors, the market has been an avenue for culinary adventures. Families gather to enjoy freshly cooked meals, couples share sweet treats, and friends toast with refreshing drinks. The aroma of ihaw ihaw, freshly baked pastries, and exotic spices fills the air, creating an inviting and festive atmosphere.

“It’s our first time here. We’ve always wanted to visit the market, so it’s good that our schedules finally aligned. Despite the weather, we are having fun! We love the ambience of the place, and the food stalls all look appetizing. We’ll definitely becoming back,” said Pat, 27, who brought her mom to the celebration.

More than just a place to eat, the Greenfield Weekend Market is a cultural hub. Live music performances add a vibrant soundtrack to complete the market experience. Local bands and solo artists entertain the crowd with a variety of genres, from indie rock to jazz. These performances provide a platform for emerging talent and enrich the market’s lively atmosphere. At the recently held 10th anniversary celebration, the Rockitwell Band livened up the crowd with its renditions of timeless songs Filipinos have loved and rocked to.

Art also plays a significant role in the market’s identity. Every weekend, local artists set up booths to display their work and offer live portraits to visitors. From paintings and portraits to artisan crafts, the market celebrates creativity in all its forms. Attendees can even find artists at work, offering a glimpse into their creative process.

A Treasure Trove of Unique Finds

Shopping at the Greenfield Weekend Market is like a treasure hunt. Hard-to-find books, handcrafted jewelry and trinkets, quirky home décor, and handmade bags are just a few of the items that it offers. Each stall tells a story, reflecting the passion and creativity of the vendors.

Clifford, the owner of MRR Elite and Accessories, has been selling precious stones and handmade jewelry on the market for 10 years. “The Greenfield Weekend Market had affordable rent yet was the most crowded area and profitable among other bazaars in Metro Manila. We started with only one table, now we have two tables at the market, and we have even expanded to a branch in Pasig. Over the years, we have established our shop here and have developed relationships with our mga suki from different parts of the country,” he shared, fondly looking back at his experience as a merchant at the market.

One of the more unique attractions at the Greenfield Weekend Market is the presence of a tarot reader. Whether visitors are believers in the power of the tarot or are simply curious, it is undeniable that these mystics add an element of intrigue and mystery to the market. Over the years, the market has also served as a place where people come to explore not just the external world, but their inner selves as well.

Looking Forward

The Greenfield Weekend Market’s 10-year anniversary is not just a celebration of its past, but also a look toward the future. The market plans to further evolve and promote the vibrancy at the heart of Mandaluyong, serving as a prime communal space for people in the metro while fostering community ties.

“We want to keep evolving and responding to the needs and interests of our community. Whether it’s through introducing new types of cuisine, hosting cultural events, or providing more opportunities for local artists and entrepreneurs, our goal is to keep the market a dynamic and welcoming place for everyone,” said Ms. Tambunting.

The Greenfield Weekend Market has proven that it is more than just a weekend destination. It is a living, breathing community that has brought people together for a decade. As it celebrates its 10-year milestone, the market remains a testament to the power of shared experiences and the enduring value of community. Here’s to many more years of food, art, music, shopping, and memories at the Greenfield Weekend Market, where every weekend promises a new adventure. Opens every Saturday and Sunday from 4pm till 12am located at Greenfield District Central Park in Mandaluyong City.
