To say that Superbon is prepared for one of the biggest fights of his career might be an understatement.
The multi-titled Thai star will go against Giorgio “The Doctor” Petrosyan for the inaugural ONE Featherweight Kickboxing World Title at ONE: FIRST STRIKE this Friday, October 15.
For the 31-year-old, he thinks that his diverse background in both kickboxing and Muay Thai will give him enough of an edge to hurdle Petrosyan, who many fans consider the greatest kickboxer of all time.
“I think I have no weaknesses. My strength is that I am a well-rounded fighter,” Superbon told ONEFC.com.
“Also, with my Muay Thai background, can adapt my versatile Muay Thai skills to kickboxing. And, I’ve been through more experiences than him.”
The Banchamek Gym star knows that it won’t be a walk in the park against the Armenian-Italian striker, but he’s convinced that he has his foe’s weaknesses figured out. And he plans to explot all of them on Friday night.
“After I studied Petrosyan’s previous fights, I found that he couldn’t take knees so well,” he said.
“For his strength, he has deadly punches and fast strikes. His danger lies in his striking techniques. He can land punches, and he kicks with incredible power and precision. He is a very strong fighter. However, I will counteract him by making a move first and attacking him whenever I see a chance.”
But while most fighters would predict a knockout or a flashy finish, Superbon knows this will be a chess match between two high-level fighters.
The last time Petrosyan got finished was in 2013, and while winning via KO would be nice, Superbon won’t force things, especially against an opponent of Petrosyan’s caliber.
“It’s hard to predict how the game will turn out, and it’s hard to knock him out because he is a high-level fighter. Also, we both will do everything to hide our flaws so we don’t get knocked out,” he said.
“I think each of us will likely outscore the other round by round and end up with a decision.”
Catch ONE: FIRST STRIKE on One Sports or One Sports+ at 8:30 p.m. Philippine Standard Time (PHT) on Friday, October 15.
It will also air simultaneously on the ONE Super App and ONE’s YouTube channel.
