Perpetual tossers score twin-kill

Rookie Jemalyn Menor scored a game-high 21 points on 20 attacks and an ace to help the Perpetual Help Lady Help Altas remain unblemished in the NCAA 100 Women’s Volleyball Tournament at the Jose Rizal University Gym in Mandaluyong City on Thursday.

Coach Sandy Rieta’s players needed 4 sets before finally posting their sixth win – a 25-10, 19-25, 25-22, 25-19 victory over the San Sebastian College Lady Stags.

Three more Lady Altas scored in double digits, namely Daizerlyn Uy with 15 points, 9 of which were service aces, Winnie Bedan̈a, with 13 and Shaila Omipon, with 12.

Fianne Ariola recorded 25 excellent sets in 93 attempts, while Marian Andal had 13 receptions and Joanna Denise Lozano had 13 digs.

Veteran Katherine Santos led San Sebastian College with 22 points. They dropped to 3-2 in the standings.

Meanwhile, the defending champion Altas Spikers recorded their fifth win (25-20, 25-19, 25-18) at the expense of the Golden Stags in just one hour and 4 minutes of action in the men’s division.

Coach Macky Carì̈no’s four players scored in double digits to clinch their second straight win after suffering a 5-set loss to Arellano University recently.

Quicker Kc Andrade scored a game-high 15 points from 10 points in attacks, to go with 4 points in blocks and an ace, while Kobe Tabuga and Jeff Marapoc contributed with identical 13 points. Dexter Arrozado contributed 10 points, six of which were from attacks and 4 from blocks.

Kyle Villamor led the way for SSC with 14 points.

The Altas Spikers now hold a 5-1 slate, while the Stags fell to 1-4.
