College of St. Benilde survived a strong second-set challenge by San Sebastian College as it hammered out a 25-13, 23-25, 25-13, 25-14 win on Wednesday, propelling it back to the solo lead in NCAA Season 99 women’s volleyball at the Filoil EcoOil Arena.

Wielyn Estoque, who will be one of the young guns who will take the leadership mantle when their super seniors graduate, paced her team with 11 points, while Michelle Gamit and skipper Jessa Dorog crushed it with 10 hits apiece in helping the Lady Blazers reclaim solo no. 1 with a pristine 4-0 record.

It also extended CSB’s magnificent streak to 33 that included a pair of 11-win title sweeps the last two seasons.

And while the Jerry Yee-mentored team lost concentration in the second set that allowed San Sebastian to deal the three-peat-seeking titlist its first set defeat of the season, it managed to recover in time to re-impose its will and preserve the victory.

Just like before, Yee continued to shuffle his wards as he was intentionally giving his young guns a chance to show their wares to prepare them as four seniors are on their final tour of duty this year—Gamit, Jade Gentapa, Cloanne Mondonedo and Gayle Pascual.

Mondonedo had another day at the office as she came through with 19 excellent sets while contributing six hits she laced with four laser-like service aces.

Kat Santos paced the Lady Stags with 17 but was just no match to CSB’s firepower as the former fell winless in four outings.
