Perpetual Help coach Acaylar’s interment set on February 5

Legendary and multi-titled coach Sinfronio ‘Sammy’ Acaylar will be buried at Heaven’s Park in Barangay Sto. Nino, Binan, Laguna on February 5, a day after what would have been his 66th birthday.

Acaylar’s remains now lie in state at the Perpetual Chapel inside the University of Perpetual Help System Dalta in Barangay Pamplona III, Las Pinas. He died at 1:30 a.m. on Thursday due to cardiac arrest.

Prayer vigils are held nightly from 7 to 8 p.m. until Feb. 4, allowing friends and players to pay their respects to the late veteran volleyball tactician, known for his unprecedented 14 NCAA Men’s Volleyball Titles since 1985.

He was the architect of the dominance of the Perpetual Help Men’s Volleyball Team in the NCAA. Under his tutelage, the team ruled the league as champions from 1985 to 1990, 2010 to 2014, 2015-2015, 2017 to 2020, and 2022 to 2024. During these years, coach Sam was named Coach of the Year.

A necrological service will be held, also on Feb. 4 at 6 p.m. after a 5 p.m. Mass.

Interim head coach Macky Carin̈o, two of his former players in Imus City Administrator Tito Monzon and Cignal HD head coach Dexter Clamor, Liwi Elizares of Alumni Affairs, Anton Tamayo of Perpetual Sports Department, UPHSD president Dr. Anthony Tamayo and UPHS chair Brig. Gen. Antonio Tamayo are scheduled to speak during the wake.

Peter Cayco of Arellano University, Raymart Woo and CJ Saga of La Salle, coach John Patrick Vicente, coach George Pascua, coach Emil Lontoc, former national women’s team coach Dominador Custodio, national players Kim Malabunga, Francis Saura and Louie Ramirez also paid their respects during the first day of viewing.
