Jun Plana gunned down several par-saving putts in the inward nine and made clutch birdies down the stretch to finish with a one-under 71 and emerge as the overall gross men’s champion in the Chairman’s Charity Cup Presented by Okada Manila held at the Manila Southwoods recently.
Plana shared equal podium honors with Lora Roberto, who had a level 72 for the overall ladies title, and Ricky Libago, who turned in a three-over 75 in the seniors’ category, in the event, held in honor of club chair Bob Sobrepena, which had the Autism Hearts Foundation as sole beneficiary.
In the regular men’s competitions, Jed Rosero topped Division I after scoring 41 Stableford points while Luis Tan’s 43 was the best output in Division II. Alex Santos signed for a 39 but won in Division III because of a lower handicap, the same as with Ronald Santiago, who shot 39 in Division IV.
Claire Ong, Park Hye Young and Woo Jin Jo were triumphant in the ladies side.
Aside from Libago, the other elder golfers who went home with a trophy were Shean Bedi, Rex Salazar, Gus Adis and Jose Valle in the tournament that was also sponsored by Mitsubishi Motors/Alpine Motors, Royal Caribbean/Baron Travel, Mit-Air Sales Center, Agrexplore and Ogaawa.
Valle also brought home one of the grand prizes of an eight-day, seven-night Alaskan Cruise with airfare for two while Maria Fe Liza Jayme became the proud owner of a brand new Mitsubishi Mirage G4 that was raffled off after no one made a hole-in-one.
