Philippine Olympic Committee President Joey Romasanta expects to meet Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee chief Alan Peter Cayetano in the next four days.

Romasanta said this following a visit in Malacanang and talks with Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea.

The meeting with Cayetano is expected to take place before a scheduled POC General Assembly on June 25.

“This is to convey my respects to him and then to thank him for helping organize the SEA Games, and then clarify roles,” remarked Romasanta.

No schedule has been set yet, since Cayetano is currently in Bangkok.

Philippine Sports Commission Chairman and chef de mission William Ramirez will also be in the meeting to update the body of ongoing preparations for the Games.

So far, Romasanta has clarified that the POC is the franchise-holder of the Games, and this makes the Council as rightful body to organize the prestigious biennial meet set from Nov. 30 to Dec. 15. Romasanta said he is now focused on fast-tracking his knowledge on the preparation of the Games following the sudden resignation of Ricky Vargas as POC president.

Vargas quit after the POC executive board invited him to explain the incorporation and functions of the PHISGOC.

Romasanta asserted that all SEA Games-related decisions should emanate from them. That’s because the POC is empowered by the SEA Games Federation Council, the Olympic Council of Asia and the International Olympic Committee to stage major international tournaments in the country.
