More foreign coaches can be hired by national sports associations this year.

Commissioner Ramon Fernandez said this is now possible after the Philippine Sports Commission refined its policies.

“The NSAs can hire as many foreign coaches as they can, provided this is supported by their budgets,” said Fernandez.

This policy will be tackled today when the NSAs go into an alignment meeting with the PSC at the Philippine International Convention Center.

Fernandez said the meeting will tackle the concerns of many NSAs leading to their preparation for the coming 30th Southeast Asian Games.

Since November last year, the agency has been sitting down with NSAs over their many concerns.

Among the concerns involved NSAs with internal disputes and unliquidated financial assistance.

PSC Chairman William Ramirez hopes that many NSAs will comply with liquidation within 30 days and resolve disputes as well.

Ramirez said that if this doesn’t happen in the first quarter of the year, the agency will withhold funding on the erring NSA.

The PSC chief will update the NSAs on the construction of the Philippine Sports Training Center that will be built in Rosales, Pangasinan.

The facilities inside a 20-hectare land is expected to begin by July next year.
