EXPECT National Chess Federation of the Philippines president Prospero “Butch” Pichay to have a big role in the many changes that will be done within the Philippine Olympic Committee.

Last Tuesday, heads of 18 NSAs met and sought change from within. To address such concerns, a grievance committee has been formed that’s headed by Pichay.

“Yes, we organized a committee that’s for anyone who has questions,” said POC president Jose “Peping Cojuangco following Friday’s POC General Assembly at the Sheraton Hotel in Manila.

POC president Peping Cojuangco talks to scribes about what went on during the POC General Assembly last Friday.

Pichay was given the primary task of studying and making recommendations on numerous issues facing the POC.

“If we don’t tackle these problems, we will not be able to achieve a harmonious relationship between the POC, the PSC and the NSAs,” said Pichay.

There are many standing committees within the POC which need to be reactivated said Squash president Richard Bachmann, one of the NSA heads who have raised questions during a meeting of NSA leaders last Tuesday.

The formation of the committee headed by Pichay is meant to tackle questions that are being raised.

“That’s one of the changes we identified last Oct. 3. Because we actually have standing commissions in the POC that needs to be reactivated,” reiterated Bachmann, who was later appointed to assist Pichay in the committee.

Bachmann said that since he came aboard, he said he has not heard any activity from committees that have been handling issues concerning the needs and concerns of many NSAs.

He cited the need to get the ethics commission up and running again, along with membership, arbitration, and the ways and means committees.

And Pichay has asked Bachmann to come aboard and be part of the group.

“The committee will thresh out the problems. The POC president wants golds in the Olympics, and he’s predicting five. If we don’t tackle the problems, we won’t be able to achieve this,” said Pichay.
