TABUK Cit—There is a need to push for the scientific method of training for student athletes in track and field.

Lecturer and national coach Roselyn Hamero emphasized to teachers who are coaching athletes for upcoming regional and national meets.

“The teachers have low knowledge on this. They first need to improve sports science-based training,” said Hamero, International Association of Athletics Federations-certified instructor.

Hamero is among the coaches and sports science specialists experts whom the PSC dispatched to the Province of Kalinga through the Philippines Sports Institute.

The coaches and sports science specialists shared their knowledge during a series of lectures at the Provincial Capitol gymnasium.

Their presence there is helping the province improve on its grassroots sports program.

The province is currently preparing its athletes to join a provincial meet this October, and a regional meet this February.

The coming 2018 Palarong Pambansa is among the national meets that they are preparing for. Sports officials from the Department of Education are seeking the expertise of certified coaches attached to national sports associations.

Hamero said there is a need to help teachers properly teach kids running, jumping and sprints.

From Sept. 5 to 10, the PSC is bringing PSI personnel on road trips that will take them to Abra, Kalinga, Ifugao and Isabel for a coaches education program.

Over 200 teachers and physical education instructors attended the lectures at the Kalinga Provincial Capitol.

They listened to lecturers in athletics, pencak silat, swimming, badminton and arnis.
