EXPECT Manny Pacquiao to put on a big show.
He will be at his best against welterweight contender Jeff Horn when he fights on home soil in Melbourne.
The expected big crowd, according to his long-time trainer Freddie Roach, will energize the Pacman.
“He loves to perform. He’ll put on the best show that he can,” Roach said.
Since early May, organizers noted that ticket sales for the fight have spiked. Attendance is expected to go beyond 38,000, which is the number recorded when Azumah Nelson beat Jeff Fenech at Melbourne’s Princes Park back in 1992.
This time, they expect 55,000 people to fill up the the stadium.
The last time a Pacquiao drew in a big attendance was when crowd of 50,994 appeared at the Cowboys Stadium in Texas for his fight against Ghanaian Joshua Clottey in 2010.
“He loves the energy, the support that’s going to happen,” Roach said.
Pacquiao’s long-time trainer talked about the coming fight during the weekly PSA Forum at the Golden Phoenix Hotel in Pasay City.
He has been in the country for the last two weeks to help Pacquiao get ready for his clash with Horn on July 2 at the Suncorp Stadium.
Pacquiao’s camp believes the crowd will be on Pacquiao’s side which is why the Pacman feels energized about the fight.
Pacquiao is considered one of the greatest boxers of all time. He remains the only eight-division world champion. He has won eleven major world titles and is the first boxer to win the lineal title in five weight classes.
Pacquiao is only the third boxer in history to win world titles in three of the original eight weight divisions, at flyweight, featherweight, and welterweight. He was also honored as the “Fighter of the Decade” for the 2000s by the Boxing Writers Association of America (BWAA), WBC, and WBO.
